TANK REMOVAL and CLOSURE

Storage Tank Management

Bay Environmental provides storage tank management to owners and operators of underground and aboveground tanks.  Management includes: registration, spill plans, tank cleaning and closures.

Underground Storage Tank Closure

Properly closing inactive or outdated storage tank systems is an important measure in preventing ongoing and/or future releases from tank systems.  The procedures required for storage tank closure are variable depending upon site conditions and the set of regulations that govern the individual tank system.  Bay Environmental prepares UST Closure Reports typically containing the following:

  • An updated UST Notification Form (Form 7530).
  • A copy of the building permit.
  • A closure assessment.
  • All analytical results and chain of custody forms.
  • A site map showing tanks, piping, and sample locations.
  • Copies of the applicable disposal manifests for the tank(s), tank sludge and soil, if any.

Aboveground Storage Tank Closure           [back to top]

Aboveground storage tank operators wishing to close ASTs having a capacity of greater than 660 gallons of oil must close those tanks in accordance with Section 120 of the Facility and Aboveground Storage Tank Regulation.  AST closures completed by Bay Environmental generally include the following:

  • Verification of current operator paid registration fees.
  • Obtaining the required permits and inspections.
  • Perform closure operations.
  • A closure inspection conducted by the local code official.

TANK CLEANING           [back to top]

Bay Environmental offers an array of services that can be utilized in every phase of a tank cleaning project, from initial assessment to final disposal.  Along with our cleaning processes, we offer related services such as dewatering, sludge processing, oil recovery, temporary storage, transportation, and disposal of residuals.

CORRECTIVE ACTION – REMEDIATION            [back to top]

The basic objective of corrective action is to reduce the risks posed by impacted media and/or to protect potentially impacted receptors.  Often, risk reduction is achieved through the removal or encapsulation of contaminated media.  Bay Environmental has extensive experience in performing petroleum and chemical site clean up.

A typical corrective action project may require initial demolition, excavation, subsurface contamination recovery, and site restoration (as the following exhibits).
